Description

Well it’s official; this is currently the biggest project I have yet to accomplish using the draw/scan/colour/texture method. Overall time frame: 16 hrs

Name: The Arctic Moonacre

Nicknames: Frost Elders, Ice Gods, Mountain Demons, Ghosthearts, Warmhearts, Icehearts, Blackhearts

Classification: Elder

Element: Ice

Variants: Standard blue and white variant, rare silver variant (1.5x as big), very rare black and red variant (2x as big as silver)

Habitat: The most northern reaches of the arctic north as well as several mountainous regions of Canada, Russia, And northern Europe. Though if for some unknown motive, a Moonacre can travel to any region on the face of the earth

Behaviour/habits: Moonacres are intelligent dragons that go by a code that they all must follow, for they are all about honour. A Moonacre will rarely make a fool of itself and as a whole their race prefers to be alone in everlasting solitude, only leaving their perch to feed, seek knowledge or scan its domain. Other than that little can be perfectly explained about their behaviour since, like humans, each dragon is entitled to its own views and behaviours.

Feeding: Moonacres mainly hunt by taking their prey by surprise from above and freezing it in place with its ice breath, where it will then feed off its frozen remains. Though some more cruel Moonacres will toy with its prey. Thankfully Moonacres can fully live off of 100 lbs of flesh every three days, not saying that they can’t get a little greedy at times though.
Prey consists of:
-Humans
-Any wild life
-Farm animals (their overall favourite)
-Other races of dragons including Jadefins and Dunesnappers

Movement: Surprisingly agile flight, despite their size and weight, and are quite efficient on foot as well, being able to out run a speed of 80 km/hr.

Breeding: For some strange reason every Moonacre has a part of its brain that senses where every other member of its kind is in the world. When one member of its race dies, the most nearby male and female Moonacre, sensing this death, will get together to produce a single egg upon the dead dragon’s mountain top and abandon it upon hatching. The hatchling will now claim the placed mountain as its own, and by law of the dragon code, no other Moonacre may try to kill the hatchling or invade its territory for any reason until it reaches its 1000th birth date when it is at a ready age to take on another Moonacre.

Communication: Though their primary methods of communication are a series of roars and an ancient dragon language created by the Anglo Saxons; they can also speak several other languages including:
-Russian
-English
-Polish
-German
-French
-Swedish
-Spanish

Territory: Each Moonacre will claim a single mountain, which it will guard from all trespassers. Their territory may only be the mountain, but they will occasionally leave their territory in search of either prey or knowledge.

Life Span: 10,000 – 11,000 years

Signs of Presence: Destroyed villages, people/creatures frozen solid, all wildlife suddenly going silent, prints in snow, and villages armed with anti-dragon protection.

Natural Predators: None on the face of the earth other than larger variants of their own.

Human Interaction: Since, like humans, each Moonacre is different in its views, their interaction with humans has classified them into four different variants:

1. Ghosthearts: Ghosthearts acquire their names by being ghosts to humanity. They don’t hate the human race, but they don’t like it either. Many actually tend to fear it and so the Ghosthearts hide from humans, only preying upon wildlife and hiding in their caves for the rest of their time. Though like the rest, Ghosthearts will scare off any who trespass on their domain; however unlike the others they allow trespassers to climb upon their mountain. It’s just when the invader reaches the halfway point up the mountain, which the Ghostheart tends to do something about it to keep them away from its den high up near the summit.

2. Warmhearts: These Moonacres actually come to human settlements on their own accord to make peace with society and to trade knowledge with our wisest members. These Dragons look kindly upon humans and will not only help them with their labours, but will fend off any Ice/Blackhearts that try to attack the settlements. Though this variant don’t tend to befriend a single human as a partner for they usually don’t pick favourites, they have been known to fly travellers in distress to their den to recover from their injuries.

3. Icehearts: Though these dragons are ignorant of humans; that is also the problem with these beasts. For Icehearts see humans as nothing more than another food source and will prey upon both humans and farm animals alike, caring little for any bargain or plea. Many villages have been preyed upon for generations by Icehearts and must set up defences to help protect against these attacks. Though destructive, Icehearts won’t destroy entire villages through their hunger, no they only tend to swoop down and prey upon the contents of a single building and be on their way until ready to feed again.

4. Blackhearts: The cruelest of the four variants. These dragons see humans as an infestation and long to rid their territory of any human within 100km radius, in fact they only target humans and their domestic animals as prey. Though filled with rage and hate, Blackhearts tend to toy with humans with a series of “games”. For example: after completely destroying a village, a Blackheart will purposely only leave 10 individuals alive and carry them to its den. Once arriving, the Blackheart will first jeer at its prey’s cries of sorrow and fear before it freezes their feet to the ground in a perfect line near the entrance of its den. It will then speak to them in their language(s) of how their families screamed as they froze to death to increase the prisoner’s sorrow even further. Once they finally stop wailing, the Blackheart will begin its game, starting by asking them all a series of very difficult riddles one at a time. The first seven to get an answer wrong will be killed and eaten as the others watch in horror. The three victors will then all get asked one simple final question to answer in any order “How many scales are on my body?” After hearing all 3 answers it will free the one who got the closest correct answer to flee the cave and crawl down the mountain. Ten minutes later it will free the one who got the second closest answer, who will follow down the mountainside, and finally it will release the third five minutes after the second. Then it will count. Upon reaching one thousand the beast will take flight and hunt down the three prisoners and kill them one at a time to end its game. However, one of its rules is that if an individual can reached the destroyed village that he/she was taken from, they have won the game and are free to go. Though unfortunately the Blackheart purposely leaves out this dire piece of info most of the time for its “contestants”.

Abilities:
-Speech in several different languages
-Ice breath
-Glowing eyes able to see in the night
-Complete resistance to the cold
-Long lasting life
-Extremely tough scales
-Genuine intelligence and wisdom that extends that of most humans.
-Ability to live off of 100 lbs of meat every 3 days

Size: 40 M tall, 120 M wide (including wings), 110 M long (head to tail)

Weight: 700-1000 tons

Defending against them: Having a Warmheart as a guard, setting up anti-dragon defences, wearing camoflause while travelling to avoid being carried off while travelling through the mountains. Avoid trying to climb any mountains. Listen to the animals, if they go silent HIDE!
